I want a "Cultural Boost"
The Cultural Boost makes it possible for associations and independent actors to apply for a grant of up to SEK 20 014 to test or develop project ideas that could become programme items during the European Capital of Culture year.
Associations, groups and independent actors have highlighted that there is a need to test and develop their Capital of Culture ideas during the years prior to the European Capital of Culture year. It is about being able to mobilize and develop up to 2014 and afterwards. The Cultural Boost will begin on a trial basis in order to contribute to just such a possibility and the results will be evaluated in the spring of 2012.

Officials from the Association Office, after consultation with the Programme Committee for the European Capital of Culture year, will decide who shall receive funding from the Cultural Boost. The intention is to grant four Cultural Boosts each month. Those who have submitted a project idea will receive an answer via e-mail. If someone wishes to submit their idea for the next decision round they are welcome to do so.

Criteria for receiving a Cultural Boost
The programme for the European Capital of Culture is built on the two applications that were submitted 2008, respective 2009. It is recommended that everyone who wants to take an active part in the Capital of Culture year should read these documents since they present the basic principles for Umeå's European Capital of Culture year.

The grant will be awarded to ideas for projects and events that

  • could become part of the programme year 2014;
  • are based on one, preferably more of the objectives of the European Capital of Culture 2014; and
  • emanate from distinctive features that should characterize a Capital of Culture project.

The grant may not be used for normal activities and projects and the project must provide feedback afterwards. Moreover, those who are responsible for the project must be 18 years of age or older.

The results of the project must be presented afterwards, either as a written report with photos, written with sound, or written with film. We will publish the report on the Umeå 2014 website. There should also be clear financial statement.

The project or idea can only be granted the Cultural Boost once. There is no guarantee that the Cultural Boost can imply further financial support nor is there any guarantee that the project or idea will become an item in the official European Capital of Culture programme.
