The programme for Umeå 2014 is inspired by the eight seasons of the Sami calendar. The seasons of the year have their own rhythm and are formed by the cultural history of the Sami people and their closeness to nature. The seasons of the year affect us – variations in weather, variations in mood, as well as variations in how we spend our time. And each season of the year has its own qualities and distinctive features – just like the activities during the European Capital of Culture year.
