Deep Winter [Dalvvie]
30 January – 27 February

Deep Winter is “the Season of Caring" and we will find unexplored cultural treasures in themes like human rights, children, minorities and space. We will acquaint ourselves with the creation of a symphony in eight movements - movements interpreted by different composers and conductors, performed several times during the year, culminating in the performance of a complete symphony in December.

During the winter the indispensable inauguration will be held on 30 January 2014. The opening ceremony will be carried out by many partners and the idea is that it will provide a foretaste of what will happen during the coming year.

Program items this season
Each season of the year includes around 20 projects – the main project, a number of festivals and many independent program items. Some of the projects and activities reoccur in the programme each season. These are the program items that have been finalized so far:
Reocurring projects:

First concert of the seasons, Beethoven and Beyond
All of Beethoven's nine symphonies will be performed during a three-week period and in four concerts, something which demands a great deal of an orchestra. Norrlandsoperan will also commission nine new works of contemporary Swedish composers to provide contemporary reflections on the symphonies. It promises to be a “mini-festival" with smaller adjoining events also taking place while all the works will be performed by the symphony orchestra.

Festivals:

Umefolk 2014 featuring the Folk Music and World Music Festival
The annual festival Umefolk will be a much larger arrangement in 2014 as it will be combined with the Folk Music and World Music Festival, which will be put together in cooperation with several other organizations. The festival will award prizes in different categories in the genre of folk music and world music and also functions as a popular meeting place for industry professionals.
